All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them That doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for, does it? Yet, all around us, we see so many unhappy, and yes, damaged children. As society is advancing, as we are daily attaining new heights of success and evolution, something is certainly going terribly wrong. Otherwise, why would we see so many cases of childhood depression, student suicides, bullying, and other innumerable things that children of today are grappling with? Add to that the increase in cases of learning disabilities, autism, ADHD and one realizes how challenging it is to be a child in today’s world. So as parents, as teachers, how does one deal with this new, changing face of childhood? Seen this way, it looks like a dreary, dismal picture. Yet, it doesn’t need to be! Understanding the challenges children face today is the first step toward being in a position to empower and help them. Then comes acceptance of the differences in each one of our children. This calls for patience, for perseverance, and most important of all, tolerance. This issue of our newsletter is a small attempt on our part to clarify some of the challenges children of today face, & help parents, teachers, and educators take the first step toward reaching out to every child.

Manas, a young man of 24 is an ambitious individual who wants to become rich fast. He works in an international call center which pays him well. He has taken up permanent night shift so that he can earn more. Apart from that he is also involved in a small scale business which makes him work in the mornings. He hardly spends time with his family members and is perpetually on the go. Phone calls, visits to clients, pressurizing work at the call center, traveling, trying to meet deadlines….. is how the day passes for Manas. Of late, Manas feels tired all the time, he does not feel an interest in anything, gets severe headaches, does not feel like getting out of the bed in the morning…. The list of problems just goes on. Just two days back he made a big blunder in his office and was issued a memo for the same. The boss also suggested that he take leave if he is unable to cope with the workload. Manas was stunned and confused.

MAKING THE RIGHT DECISIONS

If you had to choose a million dollars, a life time supply of food or one wish what would you choose?
In life we encounter alternative courses of action to any given problem all the time. There is no one solution to any problem or situation and we have to make choices and choose one action above the other. Our decision making ability is what guides us to make the right choices. However if the decision making skill is faulty, or if it is done in a hasty manner then we are in a danger of taking a wrong decision and thus ending up with the negative consequences of it.

"Come on! ALL of us are bunking maths class today. The professor is giving a test and who wants to go take that? We're all going to take a walk and get lunch instead. Let's go!" said Rohan the coolest kid in class who was also the group’s leader. If you were in that class and in Rohan’s group what would you have done? Do you do what you know is right and go to math class, test and all? Or do you give in and go with the rest of the group?

Ideas!!! These become the main crux of our creative being. Basically, creativity is about producing new ideas or combining old ideas in a unique way. Creativity goes through from being just an idea to becoming a full fledged description that expresses the idea in detail and structure of the concept held in the mind to a third person. Creativity is about producing these ideas.

Avinash applied for a new job, but as his self-esteem was low, and he considered himself as a failure and unworthy of success, he was sure that he was not going to get the job. Handling Childhood Misbehavior

Rewards keep children going and research proves that most behaviors are shown by all people especially children as they are self rewarding. Rewards can be of various types. They range from getting attention, power, recognition, money, release from assigned duties, physical pleasure, etc. Behaviors are learnt, shown on a continued basis and become second nature because these behaviors give us something that we want, and/or remove something unwanted from our midst.
