Specializations offered in industrial designing include Product Design, Furniture and Interior Design, Ceramic & Glass Design). Generally masters' programmes are open to engineering graduates and architects.

Visual Merchandising (VM) deals with the presentation of merchandise and goods kept in a store so as to increase its appeal to its customers and broaden the awareness of the product and its features. A visual merchandiser is responsible for the product layout in shops and the showrooms, continuously changing and detailing shelf space, lighting, colour, backdrop and product arrangement, and interacting closely with interior designers and floor managers in a retail chain. Creativity and constantly coming up with original ideas, good spatial and aesthetic abilities, and good interpersonal skills are essential aspects needed for success in this field. Courses in visual merchandising and window display are offered at only at a few fashion schools, although elements of visual merchandising are incorporated in the curriculum of fashion merchandising, retail management, fashion design, graphic/and interior design courses.

Set designers plan, design, and oversee the construction of sets for theatrical, motion picture, and TV productions. One needs to be creative, patient, and good at solving problems. Working with people, and communicating visually, in writing, and verbally are also important traits required.
