What is an IQ?
IQ stands for 'Intelligence Quotient'. Intelligence is a general term referring to the ability to learn and to behave adaptively. The IQ score often represents a measure of the child's overall potential. An IQ score is typically used as a baseline for all psychological assessments.
When do I need to check my child's IQ?
An IQ test may be recommended in the following instances:
If your child is struggling in school and academics
If your child is excessively distractible or hyperactive
If your child shows signs of superior intellectual abilities
If your child shows signs of learning disabilities
Based on the child's IQ score, the following data can be reported:
The child's current overall intellectual functioning
The child's current verbal intellectual functioning
The child's nonverbal intellectual functioning
Possible patterns involving learning style
Possible influence of tension and anxiety on testing results
Intellectual capability to deal with present grade-level academic demands
IQ Tests Used in Disha:
At Disha, we use standardized intelligence tests. Disha has been one of the first centers to start using the WISC - IV (The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - 4th Edition) in India. Disha, in association a few other pioneering counseling centers, conducted a thorough study before implementing this test in Mumbai.
Other IQ tests we use, depending on requirements are:
